Water Gardening--Fun And Relaxing

aquatic garden pond design software

Water gardening or aquatic gardening is the building of a garden on a pond or around a stream as its primary feature. Water gardening combines the best attributes of a landscape garden with the technical expertise of a swimming pool. A backyard water garden should look as though it has grown out of the surrounding landscape; not as though it were thrust into it.

Typical water garden plants are divided into three types: 1. Submerged 2. Marginal 3. Floating Submerged plants some of which are called oxygenators live beneath the surface of the pond in containers sometimes with leaves or flowers that grow to the surface of the water.

Marginal plants have their roots under the water with the rest of the plant above the surface of the water.

Floating plants are not anchored to any soil; they simply float on the surface of the water. Marginal plants provide shade to keep down the growth of algae in the pond. They are generally very fast growing plants.

Building a water garden can be a very enjoyable family activity.
